As Spring arrives here in Vermont this week, I can’t help but dream of warmer temperatures and reminisce on past beachside sessions, which makes it the perfect week to blog Mary and Mike’s Nantucket engagement photos from last summer. When these two asked if I would consider traveling to Nantucket for photos, I said yes without hesitation. Mark and I turned the trip into a weekend getaway and it was such a wonderful start to our summer! Mary and Mike lucked out with a warm but breezy evening on the island for their photos, and I lucked out with the dreamiest of Nantucket engagement sessions. Win/win!
A Nantucket Engagement: June 2021
For those who may be unfamiliar, Nantucket is a tiny island off the coast of Cape Cod. It’s known for its quaint shingled cottages, sand dunes, cobblestoned streets, and fresh seafood. The picturesque beaches and neighborhood feel of Nantucket have long made it a favorite summer destination for many. After exploring the island, I can absolutely understand the allure – the shopping, the many high-end restaurants (Slip 14 was a favorite), the mudslides at The Gazebo, the oysters (my gosh, the oysters!) and the dreamy ocean landscapes at every turn.
On the day of their Nantucket engagement session, we met Mary and Mike at a lighthouse not far from where they were staying. Being so close to the ocean, the breeze cut some of that early summer heat. We first stopped at the Sankaty Head Lighthouse for photos where, as you can see, the wind played a major role in adding some magic to these photos.
From there, we stopped at Mike’s family home before a drink and a few posed shots before heading to the beach for sunset. After pausing for a few photos in the long grass, we ventured down a sandy trail through the dunes, eventually making our way toward the ocean. As the sun started to dip below the horizon the skies turned into an array of pastel colors which was the cherry on top of an insanely gorgeous Nantucket engagement session.
