Laura and Mike’s farmhouse wedding will forever be etched in my memory. Every detail of their nuptials was thoughtful, emotional, and purposeful. Their wedding was a celebration of true, authentic love – in every aspect of the word. From their barefoot ceremony, to the backyard tree filled with memories of their loved ones, to the lobster dinner – an homage to Mike’s career – Laura and Mike crafted a heartfelt day that represented the two of them and their loved ones beautifully.
A Farmhouse Wedding: The Recap
Nestled in quiet Rochester, Vermont, Laura and Mike chose a small farmhouse rental for their September wedding. They envisioned their nuptials as thoughtful, cozy, and true to themselves – and their day was just that. Laura and Mike both prepped for the ceremony inside the farmhouse as well as a neighboring Airbnb; Laura was accompanied by her mother and friends as well as their dogs, Nellie and Ash, while Mike spent the morning with his family and friends, a cold beverage, and some dapper suspenders. Laura and Mike met midday for their “first look” sending Mike instantly to tears, with onlookers not far behind.
Almost seven years to the day after her father’s passing, Laura readied herself for her walk down the aisle clutching his picture tightly to her bouquet and her brother held tight to her arm. At the end of the aisle, Laura’s brother and Mike exchanged a tearful hug before settling in to their hand-written vows and ring exchange. Behind them, Vermont’s leaves were just beginning to change – giving their backdrop a hint of color.
After the ceremony, guests nibbled on tasty appetizers and signature cocktails outside the barn. Laura and Mike decorated the reception spaces with hand-picked florals arranged by Laura, and homemade tables constructed by Mike. In addition, L+M created their own wedding playlist – placing their own touch on every detail of their day.
I stole the happy couple just before sunset for a barefoot walk on the property and was able to capture them completely immersed in their newlywed bliss. Their portraits were some of my favorite of the season and working with them was entirely effortless.
A Farmhouse Wedding: The Couple
Laura and Mike both describe their relationship as laid-back and sweet – and I couldn’t agree more. Though just because they are easy-going, don’t mistake them for simple; their wedding day was filled with emotional tributes to their loved ones and thoughtful details sprinkled throughout their day. When describing what they hold most important to them in life, they each responded with “making those around us happy.” The aim of their wedding was for their guests to enjoy memorable moments, surrounded by good food and a cozy fire. Every detail honored each other or their family and friends and the amount of love at Laura and Mike’s farmhouse wedding was immeasurable.
