This year has been a lot for all of us. Personally, I’ve been spending the past few months focusing on as many silver linings as possible. That said, if there was ever a silver lining worth sharing, here are a few sneak peeks from Chris and Lucy’s Middlebury wedding gallery from this past Saturday. It was a warm summer day and the weather, people, property and connection were beautiful, honest and so fun to photograph. I’m honored to have been a part of it all.
A Middlebury Wedding: The Day
Lucy and Chris had originally planned to share their Middlebury wedding with over 250 guests from all over the world and various times in their lives. When the pandemic disrupted their plans, these two decided to host a smaller event with 22 of their closest family members. I’m sure Lucy and Chris would agree with me when I say that despite the change in plans, their day could not have felt more “normal,” beautiful, or happy. Their wedding is proof that a wedding amidst a pandemic can still be pieces of everything you ever dreamed of, even if you have to narrow down your guest list.
Their nuptials took place on family property in Shoreham, just outside Middlebury, Vermont. Lucy’s family spent a lot of time at the Shoreham home growing up, and some family members have even been quarantined there over the past few months. The property is meaningful not only because of the memories made there while Lucy was growing up, but also because many family members attended nearby Middlebury College. I love when couples choose to host their wedding at a familiar location – it adds so much to both the meaning of the day and the final wedding photography gallery.
Saturday’s temperature was close to 90 degrees but you’d never know it. For many of the vendors, this was our first full day event of the season and we could not be happier to be back in the swing of things! As for Lucy and Chris? Well, neither of them stopped smiling during the entire day. They laughed, they cried, they held their first dance outside as the sun was setting behind the sailcloth tent. They even took turns competing during necktie limbo on the dance floor! The day was beautiful and, as always, I am so incredibly grateful that my clients trust me to document these once-in-a-lifetime moments for them.
To all of the other couples out there adjusting their wedding and making plans for a smaller event, I hope you smile as much as I did while going back through these sneak peeks from Lucy and Chris’ Middlebury wedding. Please know that your day will be special and amazing and memorable despite the changes forced on you this year, and your photos will still reflect all of the happiness that comes along with the insane joy of marrying your person. After all, that’s what it’s all about!
